Freedom Allows Hate, Too

Posted on February 2, 2008 by marc

Why do advocates think that people who speak out against illegal immigration are guilty of using hate speech? When you stop and think about it, the United States is a pretty safe and civil place to live. Even so, many of us, whether black, white, or brown, have been harassed about the color of our…

Female Suicide Bombers "Mentally Impaired"

Posted on February 1, 2008February 1, 2008 by marc

Leave the word female out of the title and you have a truism that every person who has the least bit of love for their life – or someone else’s – should be able to agree on. The AFP: Explosives strapped to two mentally impaired women were triggered by remote control in co-ordinated attacks that…

Texans for Obama

Posted on February 1, 2008February 1, 2008 by marc

The Houston Chronicle’s Texas Politics blog says that Barack Obama’s support is on the rise in Texas while Hillary Clinton’s supporters have remained static the race for the state’s delegates to the Democratic national convention. U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton remains statistically about the same as where she was in January. She currently holds 48 percent…

Microsoft Buyout of Yahoo?

Posted on February 1, 2008February 1, 2008 by marc

The Washington Post says Yahoo may be acquired by Microsoft: Yahoo was one of the first companies to popularize Web searching, and it still attracts one of the Internet’s largest audiences to its main Web site, an amalgamation of services and content that includes its search engine. However, the company has had trouble translating that…

Bill Clinton, Global Warming Fool

Posted on January 31, 2008January 31, 2008 by marc

This is exactly the sort of thing I’ve been fearing – and expecting – from the Democratic party – the foolish idea that western nations should throttle back on economic and technological development to fight the will-o’-the-wisp of climate change: Former President Bill Clinton was in Denver, Colorado, stumping for his wife yesterday. In a…

McCain Wins Florida

Posted on January 29, 2008 by marc

With 74% of precincts reporting, the NY Times has called the Florida Republican primary for John McCain by a 36-31% margin over Mitt Romney. Rudy Guiliani’s Florida firewall was hacked.  He managed to get only 15% of the vote, a sure sign that his campaign is coming to an end.  The thinking here in Texas…

Morris on Clinton, Obama

Posted on January 28, 2008 by marc

When I wrote about what Dick Morris said about Hillary Clinton’s bullying, us-versus-them political tactics back in September, there was a bit of a negative reaction.  Morris is biased, unreliable, even a kook, some said.  True, but was he right? A refresher: Hillary emphatically comes from the “us versus them” school of American politics. Like…

Cyd Mizell’s Condition Unknown

Posted on January 28, 2008January 28, 2008 by marc

From ABC: On Monday, the police chief of Kandahar province, Sayed Agha Saqib, said police had not turned up any new information about the kidnapping. "All of our security forces and intelligence agents are trying to find them," he said. … "Nobody really knows" who the kidnappers are, [foundation director Jeff] Palmer said, adding that…

Greenwald on FISA, Congress

Posted on January 28, 2008January 28, 2008 by marc

Glen Greenwald has an excellent piece up about the FISA amendments that are about to expire, the Bush administration’s bullying scare tactics that got them passed in the first place, and how the "imminent" danger no longer seems important to the president.  If the threat isn’t present, why shouldn’t we let the invasive surveillance measures…

Miss America Now a Crass Boor

Posted on January 27, 2008 by marc

Scanning the DirectTV guide last night I decided to switch on the Miss American pageant just in time for the winnowing down to the final 10 contestants.  As one who despises Survivor and other so-called "reality" shows I was unpleasantly surprised to see the six young ladies being eliminated called out and told goodbye American…
